Careers in Computational Mathematics

Students completing the program in Computational Mathematics leading to a Master of Science degree will have a broad range of career options available to them. Because the program is open to students with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests, the career opportunities are likewise varied and will remain fluid as applications of computational mathematics continue to grow and expand.

For example, financial institutions are becoming increasingly dependent on computational mathematics for data collection and interpretation. Banks, stock and commodity market firms, and other financial consulting services are all eager to hire students with a broad advanced background in computational mathematics. Typically, they now hire a student with a strong background in one of the three subfields of computational mathematics and either provide internal training or fund additional formal schooling to complete the student's background.

This is only one illustration of the opportunities open to graduates of the program. Many options are available to students well trained in the three disciplines of computational mathematics.
